Children are expected to read at least three times a week to improve fluency and comprehension. Reading should be recorded in their planners and confirmed by an adult by signing the planner. Pupils also have home access to Times Table Rock Stars to improve their mental maths.
All children should practise the spellings recorded in their planners. These lists are made up of words that match the spelling rules taught during the week as well as individualised words that the children have misspelt in their learning.
All pupils are set online Maths learning each week through ‘Mathletics’. Certificates are awarded for children who are successful and they also gain access to online maths games through completing this homework.
Pupils are also expected to learn times tables, which is a particular focus in Year 4.
In order to prepare for secondary school and to get in the routine of completing more formal homework; Year Five pupils are set homework weekly, alternating between a reading activity and a maths activity. Year Six pupils are provided with both a reading and maths homework each week.
