Music
At Bayside Academy, we believe that music is a powerful and creative form of expression that enriches pupils’ lives and supports their personal, social and emotional development. Our music curriculum aims to inspire children, build their confidence and develop a lifelong love of music.
We follow the Charanga Music Scheme, a high‑quality, progressive programme of learning that allows pupils to experience music in a practical, engaging and enjoyable way. Charanga supports all aspects of the National Curriculum for Music through a structured sequence of units that develop musical skills year on year.
Our Approach
Through Charanga, pupils take part in a wide range of musical activities, including:
- Listening and appraising different styles and genres
- Singing individually and as part of a group
- Playing tuned and untuned instruments
- Improvising and composing simple musical patterns
- Reading and understanding basic notation
- Performing with increasing confidence and control
Lessons are lively, inclusive and designed to enable all children to participate fully, regardless of experience or ability. The scheme allows for clear progression, with each year group building on prior learning to develop key musical skills such as pitch, rhythm, pulse, tempo and dynamics.
