Holiday During Term Time

ATTENDANCE

Every Day Matters

Most parents want their children to get on well in life. Nowadays, it is more important than ever to have a good education if you want opportunities in adult life. Children only get one chance at school and your child’s chances of a successful future may be affected by not attending school regularly.

Children who do not attend regularly may not be able to keep up with school work and in a busy school day it is difficult for teachers to find the time to help a child catch up.

It is not only the academic work that suffers. Missing out on the social side of school life, especially in the first few years of education, can affect children’s ability to make and keep friendships that are a vital part of growing up.

Being on time is also vital. Arriving late at school can be very disruptive for your child, the teacher and the other children in the class. Arriving after the register closes results in an unauthorised absence being recorded for that session.

HOLIDAY DURING TERM TIME

The Department for Education states that;

“The current law does not give entitlement to parents to take their child on holiday during term time. Any application for leave must be in exceptional circumstances and the Headteacher must be statisfied that the circumstances warrant the granting of leave. Parents can be fined for taking their children on holiday during term time without consent from the school.”

From September 2013 amendments to The ‘Education (Pupil Registration) (England)Regulations 2006’ removes reference to family holidays and extended leave as well as the statutory threshold of 10 days. The amendments make it clear that Headteachers may not grant leave of absence in term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Family holidays should be booked out of term time. Any time out during term time has an impact on your child’s learning and should be avoided where possible.

No holidays will be authorised.

If you feel that there are exceptional circumstances linking to a term time holiday request, please put this in writing to the Headteacher.
